Notes from the
October 5 2006
Present: Maggie Shook, Ginger Castleberry, Patty Smith, Anne Marie Grassmann, Janet Shaffner, and Patricia Podolec representing the Attorney General office. There were four personal appearances and one individual proceeding by people requesting a license. All were granted a license with the understanding that individual requirements were met. A hearing was held considering the permanent adoption of amendments to OAC 435:30-1-4. Licensure by endorsement and 435:30-1-5 License renewal; late fees; continuing education; re-entry guidelines. The changes brought language up to date by having the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy as the group responsible for the certification exam and requiring that the applicant pass the exam to obtain a license. It also included the following language: Applicants who have not taken and passed the approved licensure examination within the past five years may be required to provide proof of continued competence as evidenced by one or more of the following: (A) Continuing education consisting of up to two hours for each month out of practice, obtained within the last two years and approved by the Committee; (B) Practice under the direct supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist for one to three months. The supervising Therapist will provide to the Committee a report on the applicant’s performance prior to licensure. (C) Retake the approved licensure examination The committee moved that exemptions from continuing education requirements for licenses will be granted until the new licensure period starts for licenses granted in the second year of the accounting period. For clarification of these changes, contact a Committee member or the Board office. Continuing education request for pre-approval were reviewed. The pre-approved educational programs are available on the Board web site. Discussion of a Telehealth Policy Statement was tabled. Composition of the OT Advisory Committee was discussed. There was concern that the OT law could allow non-practicing Occupational Therapists to be appointed to the committee. OOTA will be notified of this concern since they recommend people for the OT Advisory Committee. The Medical Board chooses committee members from a list of those presented by OOTA. |
